Installation on Proxmox Print

VoIP Detective supports installation on Proxmox, using local-lvm (thin provisioning).



Virtual Machine requirements:

  • 500GB of disk space (thin provisioning is supported)
  • 16GB of memory
  • 1 socket with 2 cores
  • VoIP Detective Free requires internet access (it will need to reach *.voipdetective.com).  More information



Preparing the virtual machine and license

  1. Go to www.voipdetective,com and click on "Install VoIP Detective Now" in the upper right corner.
  2. You'll be prompted to create an account.  You will the be forwarded to the licensing page
  3. Generate a license and make note of it.
  4. Download the VoIP Detective - Proxmox virtual machine
  5. Unzip the file to your local computer.


Proxmox VM Restore - Console Instructions (recommended method):


Copy the file to your Proxmox server's /var/lib/vz/dump folder using scp.
scp vzdump-qemu-100-2025_06_05-14_20_37.vma.zst  root@<your-proxmox-ip>:/var/lib/vz/dump/
Log in to your Proxmox host and restore the VM:
qmrestore /var/lib/vz/dump/vzdump-qemu-100-2025_06_05-14_20_37.vma.zst 105

 Replace `105` with the ID you'd like the new VM to have

Proxmox VM Restore - GUI Instructions:

Please note that not all storage will allow uploading through the GUI

  1. Login to their Proxmox Web UI

  2. In the left sidebar, expand:

    • Datacenter

    • Their node (e.g., pve)

  3. Click on the local storage (or any file-based storage)

  4. Click the "Backups" tab

  5. Upload the VoIP_Detective_Proxmox.vma.zst

    • Click "Upload"

    • Browse to the VoIP_Detective_Proxmox.vma.zst file and upload it 

  6. Once uploaded, select the backup in the list

  7. Click "Restore" at the top

  8. In the popup:

    • Optionally choose a new VM ID

    • Optionally change the target storage

    • Click "Restore"




At this point, you can go into your Proxmox GUI and start the virtual machine



If you will be using CUCM with VoIP Detective:

  1. Point CDRs from your CUCM to VoIP Detective - Please go here to learn how to configure CDRs in CUCM.
  2. Login to VoIP Detective's web interface as admin - The default username is 'admin' and the default password is 'voip'. Full list of default passwords can be found here.

*Important Note - VoIP Detective is not designed to be internet facing (accessible directly from the internet).  Please ensure that VoIP Detective is not reachable from the internet, or in your organization's DMZ.
